His funeral took place last week, with fans gathering along the city streets before a solemn service at Manchester cathedral.
The inquest into his passing commenced this morning, with coroner Alison Mutch stating that Hatton was found unresponsive in his bedroom by Mr. Speak. Hatton, who lived alone, was last seen by his family on September 12, appearing well. However, he failed to attend a scheduled event the following day, and Mr. Speak discovered him unresponsive on September 14.
Although the full post-mortem results are pending, the initial cause of death was reported as hanging. A comprehensive inquest is scheduled for March 20. Mr. Speak expressed his belief that Hatton did not have suicidal intentions, emphasizing that he had much to live for. He recounted the shock of finding Hatton unresponsive at his residence and promptly notifying the authorities.
Prior to his demise, Hatton had exhibited a positive demeanor, as evidenced by his social media posts showcasing his training routine for an upcoming boxing comeback. His tragic passing resonated deeply with his family, who described him as more than just a boxing champion but as a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many.
The funeral service attracted numerous notable figures from the British boxing community, including Tyson Fury, Tony Bellew, and Frank Bruno, alongside celebrities like Liam Gallagher and sports personalities such as Andrew Flintoff and Wayne Rooney. The commemorative march following the service culminated at the Etihad Stadium, where a touching tribute was paid to Hatton, a revered figure in the boxing world.
Throughout his career, Hatton’s captivating fighting style endeared him to fans worldwide, with memorable moments in Las Vegas against boxing greats like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Despite setbacks in the ring, Hatton remained dedicated to various charitable causes, serving as a beacon for mental health awareness and supporting vulnerable individuals in Manchester.
