Apple has officially unveiled its latest smartphone, the iPhone 17e, confirming earlier speculations. Following the release of the iPhone 16e last year, the new model continues Apple’s trend of offering key features at a more budget-friendly price compared to its premium counterparts.
Priced at £599, the iPhone 17e is over £200 cheaper than the iPhone 17 and £500 less expensive than the 17 Pro. Notably, it now comes with a base storage of 256GB, doubling the storage capacity of its predecessor.
Enhancements in the iPhone 17e include a performance boost with the introduction of the A19 chip, surpassing the A18 processor in the 16e. The device also features Apple’s latest C1X cellular modem, promising faster speeds for downloads and streaming on cellular networks.
The front of the iPhone 17e boasts a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with vibrant visuals, protected by Apple’s durable Ceramic Shield glass. Improved anti-reflective technology aids in reducing glare for better visibility in bright environments.
A notable addition is the MagSafe feature, absent in the 16e, which enables faster wireless charging and easy attachment of compatible accessories like wallets and stands to the phone’s back.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 48MP Fusion camera, offering advanced sensor technology that effectively provides two focal lengths in one for easier zooming and shot composition. The camera also supports 4K video recording with Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second.
Safety features are prioritized in the iPhone 17e, including Emergency SOS via satellite for sending messages in areas with no cellular coverage, and Crash Detection that can automatically contact emergency services in the event of a serious car accident.
Available in black, white, and a new soft pink finish, the iPhone 17e starts at £599. Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, highlighted the device’s powerful performance, enhanced features, and exceptional value, making it an appealing choice for customers looking to upgrade within the iPhone 17 family.
