“Android Users Urged to Update Immediately for Critical Security Patch”

If you own an Android device, it’s essential to ensure you have the latest update from Google installed. The tech giant has recently rolled out a crucial security patch to address a serious vulnerability affecting numerous new smartphones.

The concerning bug impacts specific Dolby audio components and, if exploited, could enable hackers to execute malicious code through audio files.

While Google resolved the issue on its Android devices last month, the patch is now being widely released for all Android phones.

Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf, highlighted the significance of the latest security patch from Google. He emphasized the importance of addressing a critical flaw that was identified in 2025 and has now been rectified at the Android platform level.

The vulnerability, known as CVE-2025-54957, pertains to a weakness in Dolby’s DD+ Unified Decoder, allowing an attacker to execute malicious code. Particularly on Android OS, where audio attachments and voice messages are locally decoded, the flaw can be exploited without any user interaction.

In light of this warning, it’s advisable to review your phone’s settings and ensure it is fully updated. While iPhones are not affected by this specific vulnerability, Apple users are advised to check for updates promptly to safeguard their personal data.

Boynton reiterated the importance of regular patching as a primary defense against mobile threats, emphasizing the critical role of keeping both Android and iOS devices updated.

To update your Android phone, follow these steps:
– Access your device’s Settings app.
– Navigate to System and select Software updates.
– Check the update status.
– Follow the on-screen instructions for the update process.
