Amazon has officially announced the arrival of the Alexa+ platform in the UK for Echo smart speaker owners. This upgraded version of Alexa, which was initially launched in the US, is now available for free in the UK. Alexa+ enhances the user experience by enabling more natural conversations with the voice assistant.
Users can expect Alexa to learn their preferences, daily routines, music choices, reading preferences, and food likes and dislikes. The tone of Alexa’s responses adjusts based on the context, for example, sounding more cheerful when discussing a favorite sports team’s victory.
The personalized features of Alexa+ ensure that users receive tailored recommendations for films, recipes, and sports updates based on their interests. Additionally, Alexa can assist in creating shopping lists, monitoring prices, sending delivery alerts, and providing product comparisons through online reviews.
Controlling smart home devices is made easier with Alexa+. Users can give voice commands to manage devices like adjusting lighting settings or creating custom Routines without the need to use the Alexa app. Alexa+ also allows seamless control of multi-room speaker setups, enabling users to direct music playback to specific areas of the house.
The UK version of Alexa+ has been adapted to understand British communication nuances and expressions. Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa UK, emphasized the importance of incorporating regional language and cultural references to enhance user interaction with the technology.
Concerns regarding data privacy are addressed by Amazon, which ensures that Alexa+ prioritizes user privacy and security. The platform provides transparency and control features, such as the Alexa Privacy dashboard, where users can manage their interactions and review stored data.
To access Alexa+, users can join the Early Access program, which offers free access initially. Subsequently, the service will be priced at £19.99 per month, with Prime members continuing to receive complimentary access. Amazon plans to gradually invite hundreds of thousands of customers to use Alexa+ in the UK over the coming weeks.
