Over the weekend, Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals in southern Lebanon as reported by the country’s health ministry. This incident marked the deadliest attack post a fragile ceasefire agreement in June, aimed at ending hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, despite ongoing attacks.
Apart from the airstrikes and drone assaults, local residents and emergency responders in the area have accused Israeli authorities of deliberately initiating wildfires that have been devastating homes, forests, and olive orchards across the conflict-ridden zone.
The situation has instilled fear among the residents regarding their ability to remain in the area and the uncertain fate of hundreds of thousands displaced by the conflict.
Will Christou, a journalist affiliated with The Guardian stationed in Beirut, has been actively covering the wildfires and the broader Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon.
Correction:Â An earlier version of this episode stated that in June 2026, a memorandum of understanding was signed among the United States, Israel, and Iran. However, Israel was not part of that agreement. This error has been rectified in the episode.
