The labor union representing WestJet’s flight attendants has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline after a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined key components of the deal, including an 18% wage increase spread over three years, introduction of a “duty period premium” for ground work compensation, enhanced time-off allowances, and raised food and uniform stipends.
Following the strike threat by 4,400 flight attendants, WestJet operations were halted across major Canadian routes during a prolonged holiday weekend. However, a resolution was achieved with a tentative agreement between the air carrier and the union, leading to a gradual normalization of WestJet’s services.
The next step involves the cabin crew members voting on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks to finalize the agreement.
