Wood, plagued by injury setbacks throughout his career, made a comeback in Perth after a 15-month hiatus due to an elbow issue. The 35-year-old was seen wearing a knee brace on the sidelines in Brisbane, with Will Jacks filling in for him in the playing XI.
Former England captain Michael Atherton expressed worries about Wood’s impact, emphasizing the importance of his pace in the Ashes strategy. The English team made a tactical adjustment in Brisbane by including spin-bowling allrounder Jacks for added depth.
In response to Root’s heroics, Mitchell Starc shone for Australia, claiming 6-71 with the pink ball. The Ashes series, commencing on November 21, will be broadcast live on TNT Sports via discovery+ or Prime Video’s TNT Sports channel.
