The former partner of Constance Marten expressed deep concern over her relationship with a convicted rapist, Mark Gordon. Francis Abolo, who previously dated Marten, revealed that he had been warned about Gordon’s violent and substance-abusing tendencies. Marten and Gordon were convicted of manslaughter after the tragic death of their newborn daughter Victoria while they were evading authorities and living in a tent on the South Downs in January 2023.
Abolo regretted not doing more to protect Marten from Gordon, whom he described as “bad news.” He recounted their past relationship, emphasizing Marten’s desire for a family and his own aspirations for their future together. Abolo expressed shock and disbelief at the events surrounding Marten and Gordon, stating that the person he knew seemed unrecognizable in those circumstances.
Marten, born into a wealthy family with royal connections, faced a tumultuous journey that led to tragic consequences. Abolo highlighted Marten’s aspirations and the drastic turn her life took with Gordon. Despite Marten’s financial stability, she and Gordon resorted to scavenging for food while evading authorities.
The couple’s actions resulted in the death of their infant daughter, leading to their conviction on multiple charges, including child cruelty and perverting the course of justice. In court proceedings, Marten’s family and legal representation appealed to her character and mental health struggles. Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke condemned Gordon and Marten’s actions, underscoring the loss of a young life due to their selfish decisions.
