“Russia Warns of Action Against Tomahawk Missile Supply to Ukraine”

Russia has issued a warning that it will take action against any Tomahawk cruise missiles and their launch sites if Donald Trump provides these weapons to Ukraine. The threat came from a senior Russian lawmaker in response to Trump’s comments indicating a decision to supply the powerful 1,600-mile range missiles to Volodymyr Zelensky’s forces. The lawmaker stated that Russia’s response, as directed by Putin, would be severe and targeted, including potential strikes on launch sites to retaliate against those causing trouble.

The Russian official downplayed NATO allies’ claims that the missiles could significantly impact the situation in Ukraine, noting logistical limitations that would restrict the supply to Kyiv to only a small quantity. Separately, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov criticized the fading progress following the Putin-Trump meeting in Alaska, attributing the setback to the actions of European allies.

In a separate incident, Russia reportedly targeted and damaged a thermal power plant in Ukraine during an overnight attack, resulting in injuries to two workers. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin, celebrating his 73rd birthday, embarked on a state visit to Tajikistan for a series of meetings with leaders from former Soviet Union nations. Human Rights Watch called for Putin’s arrest under the 2023 International Criminal Court warrant for war crimes, cautioning against impunity for Russian forces’ actions in Ukraine.
