“Father sentenced to 30+ years for murdering baby son”

A man who falsely reported his baby son’s kidnapping and then proceeded to commit the murder of the child has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison. Jake Haro, aged 32, confessed to the murder during a previous court appearance, following an incident where he claimed his wife, Rebecca, was attacked while changing their son’s diaper in their car outside a store in Yucaipa, California.

The couple’s inconsistent statements led to their arrest a week later, with investigations revealing that Haro was responsible for the baby’s death, although the child’s body has not been found. Haro faced charges of murder, filing a false police report, and child endangerment, resulting in a lengthy prison term.

Rebecca Haro, aged 41, pleaded not guilty and is currently detained on a $1 million bail, awaiting a court appearance in January. Prosecutors in Riverside County sought a sentence of 31 years to life for Haro, citing his previous conviction for causing severe injuries to another child in 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith expressed in court documents that Haro’s actions resulted in the loss of two young lives, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. The incident in August, where Rebecca claimed Emmanuel was abducted from a store parking lot, raised initial concerns but subsequent investigations raised doubts about the reported events.

Rebecca recounted her version of events to the media, stating that she had briefly left her son unattended and then found him missing, allegedly due to an attack she could not recall. Despite her initial account and visible injuries, further scrutiny by law enforcement cast suspicion on the validity of her story.
