Maxwell’s Former NYC Residence Hits Market at $17.75M

Ghislaine Maxwell’s former residence in New York City is back on the market with a substantial price tag. The property, situated on East 65th Street in the Upper East Side of NYC, was acquired by Manhattan real estate tycoon Frederick Rudd for $15 million (£11 million) in 2016. Maxwell agreed to the offer, which was $4 million (£3.7 million) below the initial asking price.

Following Rudd’s passing at the age of 70 last year, the five-story house is now listed for sale at $17.75 million (£13 million). Described as a “stunning 1910 Beaux-Arts-style limestone and brick townhouse” on one of Manhattan’s desirable tree-lined avenues, the property boasts high ceilings, two fireplaces, and white oak flooring, creating an ideal ambiance for elegant gatherings.

According to the New York Post, the listing does not mention Maxwell’s previous ownership but highlights that the mansion has undergone a full renovation. The property is said to offer a luxurious setting for sophisticated entertaining with its outstanding features.

The British socialite, now 63, received the home from a lawyer for Jeffrey Epstein in 2000. Maxwell frequently hosted private dinners, cocktail parties, and receptions at the residence, welcoming eminent guests such as the president and first lady of Iceland, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and actress Kelly Rutherford.

Amid exclusive images of Maxwell heading to a yoga class after being relocated to a new correctional facility, news of the property’s re-listing surfaced. The recent photos of the convicted sex trafficker have triggered anger among her victims, who were already displeased with her transfer to a lenient prison known as Camp Cupcake just three years into her sentence.

Criticism has been directed at Maxwell’s privileged treatment, particularly from one of Epstein’s survivors, denouncing the transfer as unjust given the impact of Maxwell’s actions on numerous lives. Maxwell’s sentencing to 20 years in prison for aiding Epstein in the sexual abuse of minors in 2022 marked a significant victory for those seeking justice after previous legal oversights.

Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial, engaged in extensive sexual abuse of underage girls for years, a crime prosecutors asserted was facilitated by Maxwell. Despite the sentencing falling short of prosecutors’ desired term, Epstein’s accusers expressed relief and a sense of closure after enduring a prolonged journey to seek justice for themselves and fellow survivors.
