Police have provided an update following an incident where a mother and her child were ejected from their vehicle during a crash. The baby is expected to fully recover after being rescued from under the overturned car, as shown in a dramatic video released by authorities on a busy highway.
Law enforcement responded to the scene on a Thursday morning after receiving reports of the mother and child being thrown from their car during the accident. Body camera footage shared on social media by the Fort Worth Police Department depicted an officer rushing to the overturned vehicle to search for the child, while a distressed woman could be heard in the background calling out for her baby.
The officer enlisted the help of other motorists who had stopped at the scene to assist in lifting the car. He directed them to move the vehicle, believing the child was trapped underneath. With his guidance, the car was raised enough for the officer to reach the child’s leg and pull them to safety.
Initially unresponsive, the child later showed signs of life. Officers administered aid, prompting the baby to start crying. Both the mother and child are expected to recover fully, according to the police.
In a social media post, Police Chief Eddie Garcia referred to the child as a “little angel” and praised the officers for their courageous actions. The department also expressed gratitude to the bystanders who helped with the rescue effort.
The post concluded with appreciation for Sgt. Nichols and Officer Bounds for their quick response and bravery in the face of adversity. The department lauded the citizens of Fort Worth for their immediate assistance to the officers in need.
