“Matchroom CEO Denies Fixing Claims in Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Bout”

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith refutes claims that the upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua will be fixed. Reports emerged last week indicating the two were finalizing a deal for a Christmas clash, which was later confirmed to take place on December 19 in Miami. The bout, set for eight three-minute rounds with both fighters using 10oz gloves, will impact their professional records.

While Paul has faced fixing accusations since his debut in 2020, he denies any wrongdoing. Criticism from the boxing community labeling the fight as ‘rigged’ has surfaced. Smith, a key figure in Eddie Hearn’s team, downplays these allegations, emphasizing that it is a standard professional fight.

The heavyweight showdown between Joshua and Paul will be live-streamed on Netflix. The event, available for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle, is scheduled for December 19 in Miami. Joshua’s camp expressed confidence in his intent to win decisively, dismissing any notion of prearranged outcomes.

Paul had initially challenged Joshua earlier this year, with discussions waning until recently when Joshua accepted the offer. Following a victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, Paul’s match against Gervonta Davis was canceled due to legal issues. Desperate for another fight in 2021, Paul’s call-outs led to the agreement with Joshua.

Smith revealed that the fight materialized swiftly after the failed Davis bout, acknowledging the unexpected nature of Paul’s challenge against Joshua. Despite reservations about the matchup, Smith recognized the bold move taken by Paul. The fight’s timing, set close to Christmas, aims to cater to the American audience and will be broadcast live on Netflix.
