Celebrity Traitors actor Joe Marler has shared that he and his partner, Daisy, were deeply affected by the passing of Daisy’s grandmother during the filming of the popular TV show.
In an interview, the 35-year-old explained how the heartbreaking news influenced his initial decision to quit the show, only to be persuaded by his wife to stay. He noted that the tragic event served as a catalyst for his notably confrontational and controversial behavior during the round-table discussions on the program.
“Daisy’s nan passed away midway through filming,” Marler disclosed to The Times. “The producers were aware that she was terminally ill, so I informed them that I couldn’t continue.”
After initially planning to leave, Marler’s wife encouraged him to remain until eliminated from the competition. This pivotal moment prompted Marler to overcome his impostor syndrome and intensify his efforts, determined to succeed or exit the show on his terms.
Despite facing challenges and a lackluster performance from his team, Marler managed to survive three weeks on the show, ultimately reaching the final rounds where he showcased his astute ability to identify fellow Traitors. However, his strategy fell short during the crucial finale, resulting in his elimination and eventual victory for contestant Alan.
Marler also revealed discrepancies in the payment structure among participants, indicating that not everyone received equal compensation despite rumors suggesting otherwise. Contradicting previous claims, Marler clarified that his earnings were lower than the reported standard fee of £40,000.
Reflecting on his experience on the show, Marler shared insights during an appearance on Saturday Kitchen, highlighting pivotal moments and expressing admiration for his fellow contestants. Despite the outcome not aligning with his plans, Marler maintained a positive outlook and praised the ultimate winner, Carr, for his success.
The disclosure of personal challenges and behind-the-scenes details added depth to Marler’s journey on Celebrity Traitors, showcasing his resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
