“Starmer Defends London Mayor Khan Against Trump’s Attacks”

Keir Starmer criticized Donald Trump’s recent derogatory comments about London Mayor Sadiq Khan, labeling them as “absurd.” The US President made disparaging remarks about Mr. Khan, accusing London’s leaders of aiming to implement Sharia law, a claim that the Mayor vehemently denied, calling Trump “racist” and “Islamophobic.”

In response to Trump’s attack on Mr. Khan during the UN General Assembly following his UK state visit, Keir Starmer, speaking to ITV London, defended the Mayor, praising him as a “decent individual.” Starmer emphasized that while he and Trump share common ground on various issues, the idea of Sharia law being introduced in London is baseless, highlighting Khan’s efforts in reducing serious crime.

Regarding accusations of sexism, racism, and Islamophobia against Trump, Starmer refrained from engaging in a verbal conflict, stressing the importance of collaboration between the UK and the US. He expressed pride in London and its Mayor for their commendable work, emphasizing the significant relationship between the two countries.

In a lengthy speech, Trump criticized Khan, claiming that London has changed for the worse under his leadership. In response, Khan questioned why he occupies so much space in Trump’s thoughts, highlighting his leadership of a diverse, progressive city. Khan condemned Trump, labeling him as racist, sexist, misogynistic, and Islamophobic.
