“Man Sentenced to Life for Death of Toddler”

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the death of a two-year-old girl under his care. Travis Ray Thompson was found guilty of first-degree murder in the tragic incident involving Jacklyn Schwingel, which occurred on May 2, 2022. The incident took place shortly after Jacklyn’s mother ended her relationship with Thompson.

Upon returning home from work, Jacklyn’s mother found her daughter in critical condition, with medical professionals suspecting internal bleeding. The toddler was rushed to the hospital, where it was confirmed that her death was caused by severe injuries to her torso, including a broken spine and internal bleeding.

Investigations revealed that Thompson had inflicted significant force on Jacklyn, resulting in fatal injuries. Despite being the only adult present with the child, Thompson claimed ignorance about the cause of her injuries during police questioning.

State Attorney Bill Gladson expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that Thompson’s life imprisonment was a fitting punishment for his heinous crime. This case comes in the wake of the conviction of Kerry and Michael Ives for the murder of their grandson, Ethan Ives-Griffiths, who suffered fatal head injuries due to sustained abuse. The grandparents received lengthy prison sentences, while Ethan’s mother, Shannon Ives, also faced legal consequences for her role in the tragic events.
