Three major high street banks, Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, all part of Lloyds Banking Group, have announced the closure of 71 branches next year due to the increasing trend of online banking. The closures, initially disclosed earlier this year, will affect 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations, and 17 Bank of Scotland sites. If your bank branch is among those closing, alternative options are available.
Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland can utilize branches across any of these three banks for their everyday banking needs. Additionally, individuals can explore the possibility of using a “banking hub” nearby, where a bank operates within a shared public space on the high street.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group emphasized the shift in customer banking preferences towards digital platforms, with over 21 million customers opting to manage their finances through apps. The group aims to provide increased flexibility by combining digital convenience with in-person services. Customers can conduct their everyday banking at any Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branch, utilize the Post Office, or access banking hubs, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
