“Sadiq Khan Slams Trump’s Racist Accusations”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has criticized President Donald Trump, accusing him of being racist, sexist, and Islamophobic following Trump’s recent remarks labeling him as a “terrible” mayor. Khan, who leads the Labour Party in the capital, suggested that he is constantly on Trump’s mind as evidenced by the President’s ongoing attacks against him. Trump reignited his feud with Khan during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he referred to Khan as a “terrible” mayor and made unfounded claims about London adopting Sharia law.

Responding to Trump’s comments, Khan highlighted the success and inclusivity of London under his leadership, pointing out the record numbers of American visitors to the city. He emphasized London’s global standing in culture, foreign investment, sports, and overall potential for individuals to thrive, asserting his pride in London’s achievements.

Various politicians, including Cabinet minister Pat McFadden and Health Secretary Wes Streeting, refuted Trump’s claims about London and praised Khan’s efforts in promoting diversity and progress in the city. Labour MP Dame Emily Thornberry vouched for Khan’s character, describing him as a feminist, socialist, and LGBTQ+ ally, dismissing any insinuations about introducing Sharia law in London as baseless.

Additionally, other Labour members, such as Rupa Huq and Rosena Allin-Khan, condemned Trump’s statements as falsehoods and Islamophobic rhetoric. Allin-Khan called for the US ambassador to be summoned to address Trump’s discriminatory remarks, emphasizing London’s commitment to diversity and rejecting bigotry.
