A couple who had recently gotten married were discovered deceased just a few days shy of their first wedding anniversary.
Rachel and Brandon Dumovich, aged 29 and 30, were found with fatal gunshot wounds to their heads inside their vehicle on Route 14 in Harvard, Illinois, on October 6.
A police officer in Harvard came across the car with its hazard lights flashing. Upon closer inspection, he observed Rachel in the driver’s seat and Brandon in the passenger’s seat, both deceased.
Initially, locals were advised to shelter-in-place, but authorities later confirmed there was no ongoing danger. Harvard Chief of Police Tyson Bauman mentioned the possibility of a murder-suicide, although a final determination has not been made by the police.
Reports indicate that both victims sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, as per information from Fox News Digital. The full autopsy report from the coroner’s office is yet to be disclosed.
Authorities stated, “At present, this incident seems to be isolated, with no indication of any danger or threat to the public.”
According to their wedding page on The Knot, the couple first met during middle school when Rachel was 12 years old. They were on the brink of marking their first year as a married couple at the time of the tragic discovery.
In a touching tribute, Rachel shared a memory from when they first met, saying, “I caught Brandon’s attention by stealing cologne from his locker and running away with it.”
The couple reconnected as adults after 15 years and eventually tied the knot on October 12 the previous year at Big Cedar Lake in Wisconsin.
On the day they passed away, Rachel posted a selfie of the couple on Facebook, followed by another image of them on a trip to Greece, expressing their fondness for sunsets and reminiscing about their time in Greece.
Brandon, born in Barrington, Illinois, served as a petty officer in the US Navy and was known for his remarkable ability to uplift spirits and foster unity, as stated in his public obituary.
Rachel, in her public obituary, was described as a natural connector, advocate, and loyal friend with a strong sense of empathy, compassion, social justice, and fairness, always standing up for those in need of support.
