In a tragic incident at a supermarket car park in North Olmstead, Ohio, a woman has been found guilty of fatally stabbing a three-year-old boy. The attack occurred last summer when Bionca Ellis assaulted Julian Wood and his mother, Margot Wood, outside a Giant Eagle store. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Julian could not survive his injuries from stab wounds to his back and cheek, while Margot managed to survive the ordeal.
The assailant, Ellis, had taken two knives from a nearby thrift store and used them in the attack on the mother and child. Following a ten-day trial, she was convicted on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, felonious assault, child endangering, and aggravated theft. Ellis, who has a history of schizophrenia, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and has been held in custody on a $5 million bond since her indictment.
During the trial, a witness, Travis Bush, confronted Ellis about her actions, to which she responded with a shrug. The victim’s parents, Margot and Jared Wood, expressed gratitude for the community’s support after the verdict was announced.
The swift response of the North Olmsted division officers led to the arrest of the suspect and immediate assistance to the victims. Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones extended sympathies, calling the incident a random act of violence. Giant Eagle issued a statement acknowledging the incident and cooperating with the authorities for information.
Local resident Abby Weaver expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing the tragic nature of the event happening close to home. The community and authorities have been deeply affected by the senseless act of violence.
