Reports indicate that Ukrainian children are being abducted by Russians and utilized as tools of warfare in military camps. These children are reportedly coerced into participating in brutal training exercises across more than 200 camps within Vladimir Putin’s domain. They are subjected to indoctrination, forced labor, and are allegedly involved in constructing drones and other weaponry to be used against Ukraine. Shocking images reveal children as young as eight engaging in military drills such as fire and naval training.
According to findings from the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL), children in these camps are compelled to partake in various combat-related activities including shooting competitions and grenade throwing. Moreover, some camps conduct training in tactical medicine, drone operation, and strategic maneuvers. The HRL’s report, presented to the United Nations Security Council, highlights instances of airborne training for children from Donetsk.
Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Mariana Betsa condemned these actions as war crimes, emphasizing the exploitation of vulnerable children in armed conflicts is prohibited by international humanitarian law. Regrettably, such atrocities have been ongoing since 2014, but intensified following the onset of the war with Ukraine. Ukrainian officials express grave concerns over Russia’s systematic use of children as instruments of warfare, viewing it as part of a larger campaign to eradicate Ukrainian identity through the militarization and Russification of its youth.
