Estimates suggest that between 110,000 and 150,000 individuals participated in the Saturday protest organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, with counter-protests also occurring. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer criticized the demonstration, labeling it as “plastic patriotism” and expressing concerns about the impact on communities. He also associated the rally with Reform UK, highlighting the ideological contrast between the Labour Party’s patriotic stance and Reform’s perceived divisive agenda.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage condemned the violence against law enforcement personnel during a press conference, emphasizing that the majority of rally attendees were law-abiding citizens deeply concerned about the country’s direction. The incident involved the hurling of projectiles at police officers, resulting in injuries to 26 officers, with four sustaining serious harm. Following the event, 24 individuals were arrested for various offenses including affray, violent disorder, assault, and criminal damage. Eight of them have been formally charged, while one received a caution and 11 were released on bail pending further investigations.
The Metropolitan Police announced that eight individuals have been charged in connection with the rally held on Saturday. The Mirror has reached out to the Met for additional comments.
