A tragic incident occurred at Disney World as a guest reportedly died by suicide near one of the popular hotels within the theme park premises, as confirmed by authorities.
The body of the visitor was found close to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, one of the many hotels located on the expansive Orlando property. Witnesses mentioned that the individual had leaped from a platform onto the monorail track, according to previous accounts.
Initial reports on social media suggested that the guest was struck by the resort’s monorail, but a police spokesperson clarified that this information was inaccurate.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, confirmed the death as “an apparent suicide.” The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
According to EW, the Contemporary Resort features a monorail track that runs through the hotel’s distinctive A-frame structure.
The discovery of the body took place around 6:40 pm along North World Drive, as per News 6 Click Orlando. The monorail service passing through the building was temporarily halted. Officials have refrained from disclosing further details due to the sensitive nature of the case.
Disney World’s Monorail system efficiently transports guests between the Magic Kingdom park, EPCOT, and select Disney Resort hotels in a matter of minutes. The park offers three distinct monorail lines that cover various areas.
The Resort Monorail and Express Monorail commence operations 30 minutes before the Magic Kingdom opens and operate until one hour after its closure. The EPCOT Monorail starts running 30 minutes prior to EPCOT’s opening and ceases service 2 hours after EPCOT shuts down.
Tragedy Hits Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion
In a separate incident, a woman in her 60s tragically lost her life last week after experiencing a medical emergency following a ride on the iconic Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland, California. Subsequently, she was pronounced deceased after being taken to a nearby hospital, as confirmed by a representative from the Anaheim Police Department to Entertainment Weekly.
The Haunted Mansion stands out as one of Disney parks’ most beloved attractions, debuting in 1969 within the New Orleans Square section of the park.
It holds a unique place as one of the final projects that Walt Disney had a hand in before his passing in 1966, three years before the attraction’s inauguration.
The Mirror has reached out to Disney World, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orange County Medical Examiner for additional comments.
