Tim Curry Reveals Encounter with Donald Trump on ‘Home Alone 2’ Set

Renowned Hollywood icon Tim Curry has recently shared details about his encounter with Donald Trump on the set of the movie Home Alone 2. In a memoir titled ‘Vagabond: A Memoir,’ Curry reflects on his interactions with Trump, who was a prominent New York business figure at the time, not yet involved in politics or television. Almost three decades after the film’s release, Curry recounted how Trump, then the owner of The Plaza Hotel where the filming took place, was insistent on introducing his partner, Marla Maples, to the director, Chris Columbus.

Regarding his stay at the hotel during production, Curry humorously mentioned how he misled Trump’s wife, Ivana, about his satisfaction with the room’s decor. Notably, Curry is not the only member of the Home Alone 2 cast and crew to comment on Trump’s appearance in the movie, which grossed £280 million globally and ranked as the third highest-earning film that year.

Director Chris Columbus, known for his work on the Harry Potter films, has expressed regret over including Trump in the movie, referring to it as a burden he wishes to distance himself from. However, Columbus, with concerns about potential repercussions, joked about needing to flee to Italy if he were to remove Trump’s cameo due to the political climate post-Trump’s second presidential term.

Columbus’s remarks followed tensions between Trump’s administration and Hollywood figures, notably seen in clashes over Jimmy Kimmel’s show suspension and Trump’s activities on Truth Social. The director’s dilemma highlights the complexities of dealing with past associations in the current political landscape.
