“Racing community mourns young jockey Tommie Jakes”

Police have released a statement regarding the tragic passing of young apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes. Described as a ‘great talent’ in the racing community, Jakes passed away shortly after his last race at Nottingham Racecourse on Wednesday.

Numerous tributes have poured in for Jakes, who achieved 59 wins in just three seasons on the Flat racing circuit.

A moment of silence was observed at Chelmsford, where the 19-year-old was scheduled to ride two horses trained by Ismail Mohammed.

According to Suffolk Police, they received a report from the ambulance service early in the morning about a sudden death in Freckenham. The authorities have ruled out foul play, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

In honor of Jakes, jockeys at various racecourses have been wearing black armbands as a sign of respect. Jakes participated in 519 races during his career.

Top jockey Paul Mulrennan, who competed against Jakes on Wednesday, expressed his condolences, highlighting Jakes’ positive demeanor and personality.

At Chelmsford, Hector Crouch acknowledged the somber atmosphere, emphasizing the need to push through the difficult time.

Employed by George Boughey in Newmarket, Jakes achieved his final victory earlier this month riding Fouroneohfever. Boughey praised Jakes not only for his riding skills but also for his kindness and hard work.

Linda Perratt, another supporter of Jakes, shared heartfelt sentiments, describing Jakes’ growth from a reserved boy to a confident and beloved young man.

The racing community is mourning the loss of Jakes, remembering him fondly at events and races.

Racing TV presenter Lydia Hislop expressed the profound shock and sorrow felt by industry professionals and racegoers, announcing a moment of silence to honor Jakes and offer condolences to his family and friends.
