“Sky and Humax Introduce Competitive TV Devices”

Sky Q, known for its top-notch set-top box capabilities, is a highly acclaimed device offering features like live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix. However, Sky seems to be steering away from its traditional satellite-based system towards internet-oriented products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors in the market.

Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles the key functionalities of Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB built-in hard drive for storing extensive TV content, movies, and sports, this set-top box provides a rare option for physical recordings in an era where such features are increasingly scarce.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, allowing users to stream live TV over broadband. Powered by the creators of Freeview, Freely offers a wide selection of over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand programs. This setup enables easy portability, simple installation, and regular feature enhancements for the device.

The Aura EZ boasts features like 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a user-friendly integrated TV guide showcasing current and upcoming shows. With the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, users can remotely control the box, browse schedules, and manage recordings from any location.

While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it stands out for being completely free to use without any subscription charges.

Scheduled for a UK launch in February 2026, the Humax Aura EZ comes with a suggested retail price of £249.

Meanwhile, Sky has announced a new subscription package bundling major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service. This bundle is aimed at providing value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under a single subscription. Additionally, subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will enjoy over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly integrated into the TV guide within this package.

The £24 bundle includes:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (effective March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (launching in July, with selected content available from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
