A major street pharmacy chain has stepped in to rescue 60 branches of a competitor that were on the verge of closure. Allied Pharmacies has assumed control of 60 Jhoots Pharmacies locations, most of which are currently shut down. However, Allied has assured the public that it is dedicated to restoring essential pharmacy services at these sites.
With this acquisition, Allied’s network will expand to approximately 210 branches throughout England and Wales, as reported by C+D magazine. Emphasizing the importance of community pharmacies in promoting public health, Allied expressed its commitment to promptly resuming pharmaceutical services at the newly acquired branches.
Recent reports revealed that Jhoots Pharmacies had been facing financial difficulties, leading to concerns about the potential loss of healthcare access for communities. The ownership of these pharmacies is divided between Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with Manjit overseeing over 20 branches and denying any operational issues, while Sarbjit is reported to own the remaining 129.
Manjit Jhooty’s spokesperson affirmed the solvency and continued operation of the pharmacies under his management, emphasizing their essential role in local communities. Sarbjit Jhooty acknowledged workforce challenges and pledged to address them. The Mirror reached out to Jhoots for further comments on the situation.
